Reggae
I've really tried. I try with most genres of music. Give them all many listens, explore all the variations. The Dub stuff is better but aimless.I just cannot abide reggae and can't understand it's enduring popularity.

Tell me why I'm wrong and give me shit to listen to to change my mind.

You're not 'wrong', we all just like different things. Why try to force it? I would become violent if someone tried to force me to listen to opera, for example.

Relax and listen to something that makes you smile and tap your foot.

I like reggae, btw.

Re: Reggae
Went to see some punk band in Manchester. Steel Pulse were the support act. I can't remember the headliners, I was so blown away by them. And I wasn't the only one.

If you don't like SP, you don't have much chance of liking any other reggae.

Re: Reggae
As Nurse said.

I like quite a lot of reggae, especially the earlier ska stuff. But if you don’t like it, that’s fine too. Maybe you’re just racist?

Re: Reggae
If you don’t like it you don’t like it but closing yourself off to a huge diverse body of music is a bit odd if you are a music fan.

All music is aimless at the end of the day.

Re: Reggae
Ok. Well I can recommend the marvellous album 'Natty Dread' by the godfather of reggae, Robert Nesta Marley.

Particular favourite tracks being:

So Jah Say

Talking Blues

Lively Up Yourself.

I'm not closing myself off to it. As I said i have listened to many different variations of it and am basically asking for more recommendations to change my perception.

I can only assume you have misread all the posts.

If you don't like black people, you could try UB40, maybe? Or The Beat? BAD. There are a couple of black chaps involved to play bass and do some of the backing vocals, but most of the important band members are white.

Do you not like Nessum Dorna sung but a passionate, hungry Luciano Pavarotti?

Re: Reggae
Some opera is alright.

Nessun Dorma Italia 90

The bit he plays over the prison PA system in Shawshank Redemption.

Sorry don't know anything else.

Is it racist to prefer Jimi Hendrix's music to Bob Marley's?

Three Little Birds by Bob

If they don't float your boat you ain't ever going to get it

Boat wafting about at sunset off St Lucia and a small steel band onboard taking requests - still hits the buttons decades after they originally did, blinding tunes

Re: Reggae
Surf what are you on about?

I love plenty of soul and old hip hop stuff. Not driven by race.

Weird that you'd bring that into it and also very fucking tedious.

Re: Reggae
I used to belt out Nessun Dorma to the kid when she was about 12 - 18 months old. Chin wobble then crying guaranteed. I'm a cruel bastard.
